Sony Launches 3D Television, Dvd Gadgets, Enjoy 3D At Home

WATCHING 3D movies has always been exciting. But how many of us have the gadgets to get a 3D experience at home? We wait for things like ‘Avatar' to happen, grab a pair of black goggles and catch the best seats in the theatre to get that mind-blowing experience. But not anymore.

If Sony insiders are to be believed, the company is soon launching Plasma and LCD television sets which are capable of creating the same 3D experience in your very own living rooam.

Sony has come up with a first of its kind, 3-D-ready audio receiver.
The gadget called the STR-DN1010 would be available in the US markets by June 2010 and will cost about $500.

Add to it the video counterpart, HDMI 1.4 which has the capability to its feature 3D effect, allowing a full HD 3-D signal to be passed from a 3-D Blu-ray player. The receiver takes the signal and passes it into a 3-D-capable HDTV.

Sony Corp hopes 3D models will make up 10 percent of more than 25 million LCD TVs it aims to sell in the next fiscal year. The maker of the PlayStation 3 game console also plans to release 3D game software in time for its 3D TV launch in June.
Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, the industry leader for flat-screen TVs, will begin U.S. sales of 46- and 55-inch 3D TVs this month, with other models coming over the next several months.

Only the new version of HDMI, version 1.4, is capable of passing a full HD 3-D signal from a video source to a display.

Sony has previously announced its first 3-D-capable Blu-ray players, shipping now. The BDP-S470 ($200) and BDP-S570 ($250) will be able to transmit 3-D Blu-ray movies after a software download available this summer.

Top Home Theatre Trends For 2010

2010 looks to be an exciting year for all home theatre lovers, so if you want to really take advantage of the high-tech releases you are about to experience this year you'd better make sure you have the correct antenna installation and everything you need to enjoy a blockbuster year.

Experts are predicting three major developments this year which will revolutionise the home theatre experience. With the success of the 3D movie Avatar still fresh in our minds, you can expect to see 3D television sooner than you think. It will be the same as going to the movies because you will have to wear special glasses to get the same effect. The technology will require a special television screen and 3-D discs which should be available via Blu-ray later this year. The only hitch is that you will need a special Blu-ray player as well as the standard player will not play 3-D discs.

Australia begins the crossover to digital transmissions this year, the first of which will occur in south-western New South Wales, with the rollout to be finalised in 2013. This means that you will need a digital receiver to continue receiving television broadcasts. There is plenty of time left yet so the rush is not on, but the countdown has certainly begun.

Cathode ray tubes have diminished in sales dramatically over the last year, which is no surprise, so you can expect to see them completely disappear from the retailer's shelves during 2010. With the arrival of super slim LED screens, the uptake of new technology is expected to be spectacular.

High-quality audio stereo Systems are still attracting enormous attention from consumers. This trend is bound to continue this year and now with the arrival of digital radio, many consumers are taking advantage of this to link up to high-quality audio systems to listen to radio again.

The take-up of digital radio has been slow to begin with, mainly because the pricing of digital radios is around $1500 for the top end systems. Now that receivers are more commonly packaged with CD players, the growth in digital radio will happen as a matter of course.

Internet connectivity will also integrate into home theatre systems to a greater extent in 2010, because the trend to accessing everything online is growing by the day. Disc players with huge hard drives storing up to the equivalent of 6000 CDs which network with your home computer means that home theatre systems will also be taken to a new level in this regard.

Last but not least you can expect to see more massive growth in iPod and iPhone applications and high-quality docking stations for both of these which will be integrated into high-quality home theatre systems.

All in all, it is exciting year ahead for all audiophiles and high-tech lovers. Best of all, you can expect more competition in the market which means that the prices will be driven down. Couple that with the effect of the rising Australian dollar and you will see imports at cheaper prices than many consumers had ever thought possible.

Belkin Routers

As well as embracing the 802.11n wireless protocol and simple three step setup, Belkin's latest router offerings also break into the world of applications with software that automatically detects and resolves network issues, a playlist music generator and an automated data backup program all leading the charge.

Belkin's Surf, Share, Play, and Play Max 802.11n Wireless Routers all benefit from the company achieving a 60 percent reduction in the number of touch points which holds the promise of a simpler setup process. According to Belkin: "getting your network up and running is as easy as 1, 2, 3." Pre-installed security settings take much of the hassle out of the setup process and instead of checking network status lights on the hardware, the company has moved much of this to the computer screen.

Other shared features include dual-plane antenna positioning and a special implementation of MIMO technology that the company says gives "consistent signal, even through walls and floors"; compatibility with Mac OS X v10.6 and v10.5, and Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP; 256-bit WPA/WPA2 encryption and support for PPTP and IPSec pass-through virtual private networks. They all operate at the familiar 2.4GHz spectrum but some also give the choice of a less congested 5GHz too.

Belkin has also taken care of the USB dongle pairing with the Play Wireless USB available at US$69.99 and the Surf & Share Wireless USB at US$49.99.

At the top of Belkin's new release tree sits the Play Max wireless router at $129.99. As well as high-speed Gigabit ports, the unit also features a couple of USB 2.0 ports for direct connectivity to printers or external hard drives. This model offers simultaneous 802.11n Dual-Band (2.4Ghz and 5GHz) for speeds of up to 300Mbps (although actual throughput will be lower) and UPnP server.

Second in command is the Play Wireless model at US$99.99 which also sports Dual Band, Dual Concurrent Radio 2.4GHz and 5GHz ISM but has only one USB 2.0 port. Also featuring singular USB 2.0 connectivity but dropping down to 2.4GHz only is the Share Wireless at $79.99.

And finally, the Surf Wireless at $49.99 which only benefits from the support of one of the apps, the Self Healing app, which automatically detects and resolves network problems and runs routine maintenance scans. If a problem is detected which requires user action, notification is sent to the connected computer screen rather than being restricted to blinking lights on the router itself.

Users can back up data to a connected external hard drive with Memory Safe, wirelessly print off documents from any network computer with Print Genie, correctly tag and play music on networked devices using Music Mover and Music Labeler, or use Daily DJ to create personalized playlists, manage downloads even after the computer or laptop has been switched off with Torrent Genie and control network usage priority with Bit Boost.

Apple Ipad Specifications, Features

ANOTHER TECHNO buzz that is making rounds all across is the new phone launched by Apple - the Apple iPad. The Apple iPad  which is marketed by Apple as "most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device," comes out as the best that both price and technology can offer.

The device comes up with various unique features which no other Apple phones enjoy. The large Multi-Touch screen on Apple iPad lets the user watch web pages as they were meant to be seen on computers with amazing picture quality and sharp text. Another amazing feature is that the touch screen device needs no electronic pencil, but a finger is all it takes to give instructions.

E-mailing becomes more easier with Apple iPad, as users can save the photos in an email directly to the built-in Photos app and will work with all the popular email providers, including Mobile Me, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail and AOL.

In addition, Apple also announced a new version of iWork desktop-class productivity suite for the iPad, which includes Pages, Keynote and Numbers apps that have been completely redesigned for Apple iPad, allowing users to create incredible presentations with animations and transitions, word processing documents, and spreadsheets with charts, functions and formulas by directly touching the words and images on the Multi-Touch display. iWork will costs $9.99.The answer to that gap, at least for Apple, is the iPad. It's essentially a giant iPod touch/iPhone (iPhone) with a 9.7-inch screen, 16 to 64 GB of memory, and the ability to run almost every iPhone app in the App Store. It can connect via USB to sync with your PC or Mac, play HD video, act an ebook reader and a lot more.

This whole new kind of device comes with a large, high-resolution LED-backlit IPS display and an incredibly responsive Multi-Touch screen, with an amazingly powerful Apple-designed chip. All in a design that's thin and light enough to take anywhere.

The launch has created awareness about the phone but still could not convert buyers. An online electronic consumer shopping site reveals that survey has found an increase in the percentage of buyers who would like to buy i-Pad from 3 per cent to 9 per cent.

Industrial Testing Is Inescapable

Industrial testing and maintenance are inescapable. This is essentially to keep the cost of repairs at an affordable level. Imagine the repair costs in large industries such as Pulp & Paper, Refining & Petrochemical, Automotive or Aerospace and Nuclear or Power Generation Industries. Such testing is non destructive in nature so that the wheels of the industry can keep rolling without any hindrance. The services for such non-destructive testing (NDT) are Eddy Current, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiography and Visual Testing besides Magnetic Testing and Ultrasonic Testing. Magnetic Testing methods are generally used for the examination of faults in welds of pipelines and cracks in blades for turbines among others. This form of testing utilizes the magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL), the Portable Yoke or the Alternating Current Field Measurement (ACFM) techniques. The ACFM is effective equally in ferrous and non-ferrous samples as well as their alloys. The ACFM can analyze samples through their coatings, as no direct contact is necessary. On the other hand, the MFL is a tool suited to steel structures only and involves the creation of a powerful magnetic field in the steel structure. The flux lines are next studied so as to detect likely pitted areas and those that may have cracks. There is an advanced version of this equipment called the Inline Inspection Tool or the MFL-ILI in which the tool travels inside the pipeline and cleans and collects the information. Other magnetic testing methods use multiple sensors to increase the resolution and hence the accuracy of the results. Ultrasonic testing methods used in the industry relate to measuring of the thickness of the samples besides more importantly corrosion monitoring and the assessment of the oxide that may have built up. Some of the services in use are the Electromagnetic Acoustic Transmission or EMAT, the Phased Array or PA and the Time of Flight Diffraction or TOFD. The TOFD is used to evaluate cracks in welds accurately. It uses a set of probes that are mounted on a buggy that travels along the weld inspecting and records the data while it's on the move. This technique is totally automated.

Accessibility Of The Nintendo Wii In The Uk Was Gloomy, But Is Rising

The Nintendo Wii has enjoyed phenomenal worldwide success since its release, and for good reason. This unique console is unlike anything the gaming community has ever seen. It uses motion-detecting technology to guide game play while delivering amazing graphics and realistic movement.

The console has suffered from availability problems in many countries all over the world, but Nintendo Wii UK availability has been particularly difficult. For a long time, Nintendo Wii UK preorders far outstripped the supply to shops.

At the time of the Nintendo Wii UK release, the waiting period went from a few weeks to a few months to indefinite. There were shops that would not promise future availability of the console because they simply could not predict when they would be able to stock it.

This all added up to Nintendo Wii UK gamers having to wait far longer for their consoles than gamers in other parts of the world. Many UK gamers tried everything possible to get their hands on a console. Some ended up paying ridiculously high prices for the consoles from people who had somehow managed to score one. The price they paid was often three times the retail price of the console.

However, now that the console's availability is improving, it is possible to get a Nintendo Wii in the UK without waiting months on end for it. At some times, the availability is still quite low and it can take a while for a console to come into stock at the corner gaming shop. However, the situation is much improved over this time last year.

UK Gamers Love the Wii

Needless to say, Nintendo Wii UK gamers are just as attached to their consoles as gamers in every other part of the world have been since first laying eyes on the beautiful little machine. Many games have a UK release date that is several months after the US release date, so there is still an element of breathless waiting every time a new title is due to come out.

The sales of the Nintendo Wii in the UK have been extremely strong, and many gamers seem to prefer it over other platforms. However, most UK gamers have struck a balance between the Wii and one or two other consoles; they have specific games that they like better on one platform or another, so they keep both in their home.

Low Nintendo Wii Availability Takes To Trouble

The video game industry is exploding. It seems that more and more people are jumping into the gaming lifestyle and investing in consoles that bring a whole new world of entertainment into their homes. It is estimated that 2007 video game console sales brought in around $480 million. The Nintendo Wii alone accounts for a large percentage of that number.

However, Nintendo Wii availability has been spotty and unpredictable in many cases since its release. At some points, Nintendo Wii availability has been so poor that the waiting list was several months long. Needless to say, eager gamers are not happy about this.

Since its release, Nintendo Wii availability has been notoriously low around the holiday season. If someone on your holiday list was counting on getting a Wii for the holidays, they were very likely to be disappointed. Nintendo has gone to great lengths to meet the demand for the console, but in many cases they simply underestimated the overwhelming need of some gamers to own this innovative machine.

Some parts of the world were hit harder by the lack of Nintendo Wii availability than others. Shops in the United Kingdom, for example, had a particularly hard time stocking the console since its release. As of the beginning of 2008, Nintendo Wii availability in the UK has been increasing. It's now possible to walk into a shop and walk out with a new Wii, whereas that has not been the case for most of the time since the console's initial release.

Deceptive Marketing and Controversial Sales Tactics

Early on in the Wii's retail availability, some retailers were accused of using dishonest and deceptive tactics to sell more units. Armed with the knowledge that Nintendo Wii availability was notoriously lacking, some retailers decided to use the old "this is the last one we have" trick to convince customers to make a snap decision and purchase the console then and there rather than thinking about it first.

Still other retailers were accused of overstating their inventory and guaranteeing Nintendo Wii availability by a certain date. These retailers landed in serious hot water when their promised units were not delivered by the dates they had committed to.

The very low initial Nintendo Wii availability also opened many customers up to heartbreaking scams. On several occasions, hustlers sold a Nintendo Wii on an online auction site or through a dedicated website. The eager customer paid up - often paying more than retail price in order to get their hands on the hard-to-get console - only to be swindled out of their money by receiving a Wii box full of bricks.

Luckily, since Nintendo Wii availability is increasingly better around the world, such disastrous buying experiences have become rare. With any luck, Nintendo Wii availability will continue to improve and there will no longer be a wait for this fantastic console, no matter what country you are in or what time of year it happens to be.

Electronic Gadgets Famous to Teens

Posted in Gadgets

I know from experience that my teen wants every electronic gadget that is out there. There are so many to chose from and they are so similar even. There are just different makers and they look slightly different. One popular gadget is the iPod, this being popular with teens, adults, children, everyone. My daughter has been begging for one of these, this also being one of the more expensive gadgets to buy and the one that I would be most upset about if she lost! The iPod being great though because of the capability to load tons of music onto it and take it everywhere. But again, the easiest one to be lost or stolen.

Another gadget that teens want are cell phones, I’ve already given in and bought one for my daughter. She now wants one that takes pictures and has Internet capabilities. I have not gone that far yet, however having a cell phone is the ideal teen item. All teens want one and so many already have one even. The pricing plans vary and my daughter so far has stayed within her minutes. We added her to our family talk plan, so the increased cost wasn’t too much, compared to getting a completely separate line. The phone a lot of times can be received for free through your cell phone provider to further cut the cost of getting your teen a cell phone. All teens want and I think parents too, is the Nintendo DS and the Game-boy Advance.

My daughter has both of these, every teen wants one of these because they are able to link the games up to other users and then text message back and forth and play games together. Also, Nintendo Dogs and Nintendo Cats is still the most popular games out there for these hand held, portable game systems. Teens want these because if they don’t have a cell phone or can not use one at school they can use these to text message, draw pictures to one another, and play the games against each other. These are small, but expensive and so are the games.

But the graphics are really good and the cases come in different colors and there are lots of accessories to go with the game systems. lastly, teens definitely want the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, or the X-Box. The systems are much more expensive, even more so than a cell phone. But, they can play DVDs on all three, so if you do not have a DVD player you could always use one of these game systems as one. Every teen wants these, especially the Wii, because of the inter-activeness of the system and the very cool games that offered.

The Increased Popularity Of Eco Friendly Gadgets

Posted in Gadgets

Saving our planet is important, but that doesn’t mean you have to live in a tree and forgo your gadget pleasures. There are plenty of gadgets out there that will help you live a greener life and while most LCD televisions don’t come with a way to turn them off you can get devices to help combat that. Here are some of my favourite ones.

Cranking MP3 player.

With a 1GB capacity and a design that won’t win any red dot awards, the main USP for this new MP3 player is its green credentials. One minute’s worth of cranking will give you playback of 10 minutes – although there is USB charging too for when your arm gets tired. Including shipping, it’ll cost 55 euros, which is around 43 pounds, but consider what you’ll save on batteries.

Husqvarna solar powered automatic lawnmower.

It might set you back a cool 2000 pounds but working autonomously, the lawnmower will cut up to 2300 square metres of grass and can be programmed to come on at certain times or days of the week. Users can define the cutting area by laying a metal wire around the edge of their garden. The auto mower also has sensors in the device so it can avoid garden furniture. Solving the problem of collecting the grass, the motor’s three sharp blades cut the grass short enough as to scatter it back on the lawn. The mower will cut for around 40 minutes, and then charge for 40 minutes in its charging station, however the solar panels on its back mean that on a sunny day the device will be able to stay out cutting for up to 50 percent longer.

Efergy meter.

The Efergy meter is a compact monitor that allows the user to see electricity consumption in real time in your home. Made up of three components: a portable display monitor, a sensor which is clipped around the power cable feeding electricity into the premises, and a transmitter which is connected to the sensor and which sends the information to the monitor the data on the screen of the Efergy meter is refreshed every 5 seconds, so the impact on power usage of turning an electrical appliance on or off can be seen immediately. The Efergy meter costs 44.95.

The Standby Buster.

You want to turn your television off at the main, but the sockets at the back and out of the reach of your arm. The Stanby buster basically gives you a remote for your plug. The easy to use, remote-controlled electrical socket lets you switch off multiple appliances completely rather than leaving them in standby mode – all from a single button press. Sockets are simply plugged into existing power outlets allowing any connected appliances to be switched on and off using the remote control. Standby Buster uses Radio Frequency (RF) rather than Infra-Red (IR) to switch appliances on and off, so it is not impaired by objects in its way.

Moixa USBCELL batteries.

The USBCELL as an environmentally-friendly alternative to normal AA batteries. The top of one side flips up to reveal a USB connector, and the battery simply plugs into an open port. It takes five hours to charge one of the cells if it was fully discharged; each battery has a capacity of 1300 mAH. The USBCELL cost around 12.99 for two AA batteries.

These eco friendly gadgets are becoming increasingly popular as people have a growing environmental conscience.

Technology expert Thomas Pretty looks into the increased popularity of eco friendly gadgets with modern consumers.

The Best New Gadgets For Your Dad

Posted in Gadgets

When I was growing up the most exciting toys I came across were conkers and marbles. However great these may have been they seem to have been shunted right out of the way with the wealth of gadget toys that are available these days. The range and variety of gadgets on offer is incredible. What’s even more incredible is the level of sophistication that goes into some of these toys.

The level of technology in some of the toys available on the market is phenomenal. Many of these mainstream toys are cheap enough for everyone to own one and they seem to offer greater levels of technology than that which got man to the moon in 1969. Here are a few of the genius ideas I have come across that in my opinion rival the Apollo 11 for ingenuity.

Flying alarm Clock

The flying alarm clock is an ingenious way of making you leap out of bed. When the alarm sounds the alarm clock rises from the platform upon which it is placed and flies around the room. Complete with a helicopter style rotor blade you have to get up and catch it to switch it off. What a brilliant idea! I could well have done with one of these when I was younger and even now. The most amazing thing is that they only sell for around 20 pounds. What a bargain – perfect for a birthday gift.

USB Rocket launcher

USB technology is very recent. You can now buy a number of items that can be run by sticking them into your USB port. One of the most enjoyable of these gadgets is a USB rocket launcher. Equipped with a number of foam darts that can be shot at office work colleagues it is great fun. The rocket launcher sits on your desk and shoots darts out when instructed to do so by the computer. The best thing about this is that it is possible to hijack someone else’s. So if your friend is on the same network as you then you can tap in to their system and aim their darts at them – genius! I used to have to make do with paper darts – not anymore.

Electric paper plane launcher

Speaking of paper planes it is now possible to purchase a paper plane launcher. The products makers claim that the machine can launch planes at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. Wow – I think. I have to admit that this one is a bit of a puzzler to me and I have to admit I have not forked out the money to buy one. It sounds like the mother of all paper cut inducing machines. But fun nevertheless. I bet you could really achieve some distance for your plane with one of these. In my day we had to make use of our own throwing skill.

Motorised strap on skates

Yes that’s right motorised skates do actually exist! You can buy a pair of them, and you’ll definitely want two (unless you only have one leg), for around 100 pounds. There has surely never been a product that is more likely to kill as many people as these will.

Nevertheless it is a great concept – despite being bloody scary. Called the iShoes critics have called them the fastest trip to casualty you will ever make. I for one will definitely be trying these out though. They work with batteries that apparently last for up to 7 miles in one charge. The wheels on these skates are much bigger than those that are fixed to traditional skates. In my day we had to settle for riding around in a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel.

Seven Awesome Kitchen Gadgets

Posted in Gadgets

Everyone who cooks can use some of these practical, time saving kitchen tools. While you can get by with a bare bones kitchen and a few old pots and pans, a lot of dishes are harder to make or more time consuming to prepare. The items in this list can free up some of your time, help you make delicious meals, store leftovers and even make the kitchen a fun place. So without further ado, here are some of my favorite kitchen gadgets. I hope you like them.

1. Bread Maker

Imagine getting up in the morning to the smell of freshly baked bread, ready for you to take out of the machine and slice up for toast or for lunch sandwiches. And all you had to do was load the ingredients the night before, then set the timer.

2. Automatic Coffee Maker

This goes well with the bread maker. Add coffee grounds and water, set the clock and have coffee waiting for you when you stumble out of bed in the morning. Rise and shine!

3. High Quality Knife Set

I used to make do with an old set of mismatched knives given to me without a knife block. Some of the handles were loose, and they had to be stored in a drawer. The new set sits on the counter top. The edges stay sharp longer, and the set contains knives for most needs. More room in the drawer, too.

4. Plastic Food Containers

With a set of containers for food storage, saving leftovers is much easier. Many have lids with vents, for use in microwaves. Another way to use them is to freeze food for future use. They look better than old margarine and yogurt containers, too.

5.Immersion Blender

These hand-held gadgets can be placed in large drinking glasses, pots, or mixing bowls. You can mix drinks, baking ingredients, gravies or even whip potatoes. They take up less space and are easier to clean than traditional blenders as well.

6. Toaster Oven

A toaster oven can cook toasted items with toppings, like garlic bread and mini pizzas, as well as make toast. Small baking projects are possible too, if you don’t want to or can’t use a larger oven.

7.Sandwich Grill

For grilled cheese, tuna melts and patty melts, these grills seal the edge of the sandwich so cheese and other things can’t leak out.

These are some of the kitchen gadgets I like to use myself. For the larger items, maybe you can borrow one to test drive it before you buy. That is what I did with the bread maker. Our food containers, coffee maker and hand blender see daily use, and the toaster oven and sandwich grill once or twice a week. All in all, a good investment for my family. Happy cooking!
